IE-TRAM, the beginning of a new era of sustainable mobility in Yucatán

IE-TRAM, the innovative public transport system, 100% electric, zero emissions and the only one of its kind in Latin America, is the first BRT already operating in Merida, in the Yucatan Peninsula.

The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the Governor of Yucatán, Mauricio Vila Dosal, and the Yucatán Transport Agency (ATY), inaugurated this new fully sustainable and efficient mobility system, which combines the benefits of a tram with the flexibility of a bus.

This pioneering project for the Mexican state will connect the Tren Maya terminal, Umán, Kanasín, the engineering faculty of UADY and Teya with the La Plancha park in Mérida.

IE-TRAM is part of the Metropolitan System of Friendly and Sustainable Mobility known as “Va y ven”, a passenger transport system that runs along six axes on more than a dozen routes throughout the city.

With a length of almost 130 kilometres, it is expected to carry more than 500,000 passengers per week.

The importance of our Smart Solutions

This large-scale project highlights the integration of GOAL SYSTEMS’ expertise and cutting-edge experience with innovative and intelligent products to improve the service, efficiency and durability of the units. In doing so, we are facilitating the transition to cleaner and more competent mobility.

A fundamental aspect of the IE-TRAM lies in the optimisation of its charging infrastructure, both night-time and fast charging pantographs, to achieve a range of up to 300 km per day for the units.

All this is possible because of our electric fleet module, which has been designed to address the future challenges of electromobility.

Improving the quality of public transport

The planning of different types of buses, the determination of the necessary capacity of the recharging points, the management of the autonomy of the batteries and the control of the charging times become perfectly coordinated elements for an optimal and environmentally friendly operation.

In addition, as part of the implementation of this project, we have initiated training and capacity building for ATY’s operational staff.

The objective is to improve the quality of public transport, covering the principles of accessibility, sustainability, efficiency, safety, multimodality and customer service, substantially improving the mobility offer of the Yucatan population and protecting the environment.
